This week as I watched everybody else’s presentations I really thought of how I created my own. I have always made mine very bland, small bullet points, and one image per slide. I always thought presentations should revolve more around me and what I am saying rather than what was on the board. I felt a different way during this round however. I found that the people who cared the most about what they had to say, got across to me the best. I have a hard time paying attention during class presentations. In high school kids would either not know what they were talking about, or have such colorful and obnoxiously vibrant slides that I would instantly stop caring and listening. This has continued to be true in some of my other college classes, but this one changed my mind. A lot people walked up there with very decorated and fancy slides, and were able to confidently speak about their presentations. I honestly think that it did not matter on wether or not the person was a solid public speaker, I think people present based on how well they know their topic. Since we got to pick our own topic I was very pleased to see how many kids enjoyed what they researched and then enjoyed sharing that information with the class. This got me thinking a little more about my own presenting style. I would rather keep focus on me than have eyes be on the slides the entire time. The more I thought about it, as a teacher, your audience is not made up of adults who care about what you have to say. Your audience is kids who enjoy lookin at fun and pretty slides and that will catch their attention. I am excited for our next presentation because I find myself to be a pretty solid public speaker, so I want to work a little harder on my slides to see how much more of an impact the would have for both me and my audience.
